Bundles
One file, in the order somebody else will read it
Applications, tender documents and insurance claims are frequently required as a single file, and the order is part of the requirement.
Put the contents page first
One page listing what follows, in the order it follows. Whoever opens the bundle reads it once and stops guessing.
Then the documents in the order requested
If the other side listed what they want, that list is the order. Rearranging it to suit your folder is how a complete bundle gets treated as incomplete.
Number after merging, not before
Numbers added to the parts become three separate sequences. Numbering the assembled file gives one run that matches the contents page.
Check the count
Pages in the bundle against pages expected. A missing attachment is far easier to spot now than in a reply two weeks later.
The usual order of work
- Merge the parts into one document
- Delete pages that got in by accident
- Add page numbers across the whole bundle
- Add a watermark if the version is not final
